Grimoire Tier List - Clover Time Wiki
Every grimoire attribute ranked from S to D, with the damage and utility reasoning behind each placement in the current beta build.
Overview
This tier list ranks every grimoire attribute currently available from the tower. Placements weigh boss damage, mob clear speed and how forgiving each kit is when you are fighting above your level, which is the reality of early beta farming.
Ranking Run-Through
The companion video ranks grimoires, races and classes together, which is useful for seeing how a book interacts with the rest of your build rather than being judged in isolation on a stats screen. Rank order is only half of the decision.
How Each Tier Is Judged
S tier books dominate in more than one activity. They clear mob clusters quickly, deal consistent damage across long boss phases and still have tools worth using against other players in duels. That breadth is why they top the list.
Lower tiers are not useless, they are situational. A C-tier kit can carry early content comfortably but loses value the moment level-gated higher-tier bosses start punishing short range and low sustained damage. The drop-off is steep once you push past the early zones.
Full Grimoire Rankings
Read the notes column before rerolling. Two attributes in the same tier can suit completely different playstyles, and the right pick depends on whether you farm mobs for materials or push bosses for drops. Pick the tier that matches your next goal.
Placements are reviewed after balance patches, and significant changes are logged so you can see exactly when a ranking moved and what caused it. Nothing shifts silently between patches.
| Tier | Attribute | Strengths | Weaknesses |
|---|---|---|---|
| S | Anti-Magic | Interrupts, buff removal, wide damage | Needs durability to survive melee |
| S | Poison | Damage over time, ranged poke | Slower burst on short fights |
| A | Ice | Area control, long-range AoE | Average raw damage scaling |
| A | Explosive Flame | High burst, strong mob clearing | Thin utility against bosses |
| A | Battle Lightning | Magic builds, solid versatility | Needs tuning to feel competitive |
| B | Chain | Traps enemies, close-range burst | Limited reach in spread fights |
| B | Water | Fast, versatile, great beginner pick | Low ceiling in late beta content |
| B | Snow | Decent mid-game progression | Outclassed by Ice in the same role |
| C | Flame | Simple early damage | Falls off quickly after the first zones |
| D | Earth | Basic defence tools | Low damage, weak skill variety |
| D | Fire | Explosive visuals | Underpowered in later content |
Using This List Without Wasting Crystals
Tier lists are a decision aid, not a script. Run this short process before spending another Mana Crystal so your farming time goes toward rolls that genuinely upgrade your account instead of sideways moves. A sideways roll is a wasted crystal.
Identify Your Current Tier
Find your equipped attribute in the table. If it sits at B or above, your account is not blocked by the grimoire.
Check the Upgrade Gap
Only reroll if the next tier up meaningfully fixes a weakness you keep hitting, such as poor sustained damage on bosses.
Match Your Supporting Build
Weapons and outfits should support the new damage type. Check the weapon guide before committing.
Roll in Batches
Bank several crystals so one bad pull does not end your session with an empty slot and no farming speed.
Best Grimoire by Goal
Different goals reward different attributes. These three picks cover the main ways players spend their time in the beta right now. Most players are farming, not duelling.
Bossing
Anti-Magic interrupts dangerous casts and strips buffs, which shortens the riskiest phases of a fight.
Mob Farming
Poison and Explosive Flame clear clusters quickly, speeding up fragment and material collection runs.
Squad Play
Ice and Water add ranged area pressure that lets melee frontliners hold aggro safely.
Tier List Traps
These misreadings of the rankings cost crystals far more often than genuine bad luck does. Read the reasoning before you read the tier.
- Treating S tier as mandatory when an A-tier roll already clears all current content
- Ignoring playstyle comfort, which matters more than a marginal damage gap
- Assuming a tier list survives a patch untouched instead of checking the update log
- Rerolling a good book during a boss farming session with no spare crystals
- Forgetting that support gear determines how well any tier actually performs
What Comes After You Hit S Tier
Once an S-tier book is equipped, further grimoire rolls add little. The remaining gains come from races, classes, outfits and weapon upgrades that scale the kit you already own. Grimoire rolls add nothing here.
Shift your crystals into reserve and focus your sessions on boss drops and levels instead of more spins at the tower. Spend the session on gear instead.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best grimoire in Clover Time?
Anti-Magic takes the top spot, with Poison close behind. Both handle boss fights and mob clearing without a serious weakness.
Is Ice better than Explosive Flame?
They trade places depending on content. Ice offers area control at range, while Explosive Flame bursts down grouped mobs faster.
Should I reroll Water if I rolled it early?
No. Water is a fast, versatile beginner pick. Keep it while farming crystals instead of rerolling into an unknown result.
Why are Fire and Earth at the bottom?
Both underperform on sustained damage and skill variety, making later beta bosses noticeably harder with them equipped.
Do tiers change after updates?
Yes. Balance patches shift values, and ranking changes are noted so older guides do not mislead returning players.
How often is this tier list reviewed?
After each significant patch. Attribute roles are stable during smaller updates, so the core rankings rarely move week to week.
Does my grimoire choice affect my race pick?
Yes. Melee kits benefit from health and regeneration races, while ranged kits care more about mana and casting sustain.
